This weekend, the wines trotters have gone to discover one of the most prestigious wine-growing sites in the world, Saint Emilion.

The AOC Saint-Emilion is located in the Libournais on the right bank of the Dordogne and gives its name to two appellations: Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. The vineyard is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

This AOC covers 5,600 ha and produces on average 235,000 hl / year of red wines. There are four types of land in Saint-Emilion: clayey-silty, clayey, limestone soils composed of alluvial deposits and sand.

Merlot represents 60% of the grape variety alongside Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ample and certainly very diverse according to their terroir of origin, the wines of Saint-Emilion have grain. Their structure, supported by solid tannins, rounds out with time and wraps up, in good vintages, a savory flesh.

It is by walking from castle to castle within this magnificent terroir that we found the wine of our article of the day, the Château Petit Bouquey:

Château Petit Bouquey is part of the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. It consists of 65% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Small estate of 3.6 hectares, this wine is a family business for four generations. Today, Eric Bordron and his wife Sandrine put all their talents in order to perpetuate the family tradition.

Eric Bordron tells us about it:

"It is always with the same care and the same concern for qualitative research that I carry out the production and breeding of the two wines of this Saint-Emilion family property, marrying the most modern techniques of vinification with the traditional methods of In barrels.

The management of the vineyard is carried out in reasoned cultivation. "

The annual production is on average 15 to 20 thousand bottles for a harvest of 117 HL, then, the wine is matured in barrel for 12 months.

Tasting:

Color: garnet colored with ruby

Nose: delicate fruity and gourmand, notes of currant and blackcurrant

Palate: full, very fruity, very structured palate with soft tannins. Beautiful length

Food and wine pairing:

- Red meat

- Gifts

- Chocolate desserts
